World Geography and History - Designing Grades 6-7

Participants will gain essential knowledge and tools to design and teach the two-year World Geography and History requirements laid out in the 2018 Social Studies standards. This workshop will empahsize the use of a variety of primary and secondary sources, and teaching to meet the needs of diverse learners.

Audience and Grade Level

Teachers; Grades 6-7


22.5 PDPs will be awarded to participants upon completion of these two days of training, in addition to outside reading and assignments (as per ESE regulations). 

Date and Location

This is a two-dayworkshop. It will be offered in both Fall and Spring at the Collaborative for Educational Services in Northampton.

  • Fall: November 15 and December 6, 2018, 8:30am - 3:30pm (Register by Nov 8)
  • Spring: January 29 and February 5, 2019, 8:30am - 3:30pm (Register by Jan 22)

Cost and Registration

The cost of the workshop is $65 for member districts, and $72.50 for non-member districts.

Emerging America includes Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Program at the Collaborative for Educational Services, and the National Endowment for the Humanities Landmarks of American History Institutes: "Forge of Innovation: The Springfield Armory and the Genesis of American Industry."

A maximum class size is set for each course and registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. If the number of registrations for a course exceeds the maximum seats available or is too low to be able to conduct a quality learning experience, the Collaborative will inform you of available options.

Course Cancellation

If you wish to cancel your registration, please submit a request in writing (via mail, email or fax) no later than 5 business days before the workshop’s start date. After that, there are no refunds or billing adjustments.
