Description

This workshop is designed to assist classroom teachers and their special education partners in developing comprehensive inclusive programs for children with autism spectrum disorders. Issues relating to academic, social, behavioral, sensory and communication will be addressed. Moreover, much of the course will focus on the specific gifts, aptitudes and talents that each of these children bring into the classroom. Strength-based programming is the basis for this course.

Participants will come away with a deeper understanding of autism and the best instructional practices for teaching children in the least restrictive environment possible.

Audience

Teachers, Grades K - 8

Credits

15 PDPs will be awarded to participants upon completion of these two days of training, in addition to outside readings and assignments (as per DESE regulations). Note that these 15 PDPs will satisfy the SPED-related requirement for recertification.
