Online: Introductory Course on the MA Standards for Pre-K and K Social And Emotional Learning (SEL) and Approaches to Play and Learning (APL)

This online introductory course will familiarize participants with the new MA Pre-K and Kindergarten Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Approaches to Play and Learning (APL) Standards. This five-week interactive course provides an overview of the Standards and includes videos, slides and voice-over commentary, weekly short reading and writing assignments, and partner activities. Grading is on a pass-fail basis. 

The course is presented on the Blackboard Learning platform and will be facilitated by an Early Childhood Professional from the Collaborative for Educational Services.


Early Educators from Community-Based Programs, Public Preschools and Kindergartens; and Family Child Care Educators.


  • Daily access to a reliable computer and high-speed internet. Those who are very comfortable using computers to navigate online are most likely to succeed.

  • Educators will be asked to identify a colleague as a discussion partner to assist with some assignments.
