Description

This workshop will survey core practices in evidence-based instruction for all learners (tier 1 practices); evidence-based sheltered content instruction; and effective practices in the ESL classroom. Participants will explore effective practices to lead instruction for ELs (and all learners), and identify next actions in their district, school, department or team.

Credits

15 PDPs will be awarded to participants upon completion of this training, in addition to outside assignments (as per DESE regulations). Note that these 15 PDPs will satisfy the ELL-related requirement for recertification.

  • June 26, June 27, June 28, 2019, 9:00am - 3:00pm at the Collaborative for Educational Services in Northampton (Register by June 19)
  • July 9, July 10, july 11, 2019, 9:00am - 3:00pm at the Berkshire Hills Regional School District, 2nd floor, in Stockbridge (Register by July 2)

Cost and Registration

The cost of the workshop is $300 for member districts and $330 for non-member districts.

Instructor(s)

  • Albert Mussad

    Albert E. Mussad, Ph.D., serves as a staff consultant and continuous improvement facilitator for leadership and instruction at the Collaborative for Educational Services. In this role, he provides professional development for school leaders, teachers and other licensed educators in the areas of effective instructional leadership; effective instructional strategies for English learners; secondary literacy education; and improving outcomes for students living in poverty. Albert also facilitates curriculum development and strategic planning, and evaluates educational programs. Dr. Mussad led the training-of-trainers component of DESE's Leading Educational Access Project (LEAP). He has taught K-12 English learners and high school Spanish. Albert served as an assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, and also in the role of elementary school principal.

Registration

A maximum class size is set for each course and registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. If the number of registrations for a course exceeds the maximum seats available or is too low to be able to conduct a quality learning experience, CES will inform you of available options.

Course Cancellation

If you wish to cancel your registration, please submit a request in writing (via mail, email or fax) no later than 5 business days before the workshop’s start date. After that, there are no refunds or billing adjustments.

In the event that a course is cancelled by the Collaborative for Educational Services, we will notify you as soon as possible. Please be sure to provide your best email address and phone number so we can contact you.  Although every effort is made to avoid last minute cancellations, if an emergency arises, we will do our best to reach you at the phone number and email address you provide.
