Description

Participants will read and discuss a short story or passage together using close reading and collaborative friends’ protocol techniques. Discussion will focus on meaning and perspectives of the story through a variety of lenses. Then, participants will be directed to interpret a chosen theme from the story in a drawing (pastel, charcoal, pen & ink, color pencil). The class will end with a gallery walk and conversation about how teachers could use the technique presented in their classrooms to develop student engagement and deepen understanding of different perspectives.

Audience and Grade Level

K-6 arts integration educators.

Credits

Certificate of Attendance 4 hours.
