Description

In a world that demands strong literacy skills, it's essential that educators provide struggling readers with accessible alternative format text that allows these students to access grade level curriculum. In this course, you will learn how to use Bookshare and Learning Ally to access digital and audio books, as well as how to create accessible text from classroom materials.

  • Erin MacEachen-Travis

    Erin MacEachen-Travis, M.Ed. is a Learning Disabilities/Literacy/Assistive Technology Specialist at CES, and has been an educator here since 1998. She provides individualized, direct, explicit, systematic, sequential, multisensory instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, syllabication, morphology, and spelling to students with dyslexia; develops and implements curriculum in language arts and mathematics; and utilizes a wide range of standardized assessments to screen and test students for learning disabilities. She holds a Masters of Special Education and a professional level license in Special Education, is a Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI) Certified Dyslexia Practitioner, and holds IDA/IMSLEC International Certification, Advanced Level, in the Orton Gillingham Method. Erin also trains teachers to evaluate students with various assessment techniques and to interpret assessment results; and to apply remediation strategies for specific learning disabilities.

Registration

A maximum class size is set for each course and registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. If the number of registrations for a course exceeds the maximum seats available or is too low to be able to conduct a quality learning experience, CES will inform you of available options.

Course Cancellation

If you wish to cancel your registration, please submit a request in writing (via mail, email or fax) no later than 7 business days before the workshop’s start date. After that, there are no refunds or billing adjustments.

In the event that a course is cancelled by the Collaborative for Educational Services, we will notify you as soon as possible. Please be sure to provide your best email address and phone number so we can contact you. Although every effort is made to avoid last minute cancellations, if an emergency arises, we will do our best to reach you at the phone number and email address you provide.
