This workgroup is open to all educators interested in strengthening their skills working with ELL students and others who need language support, designing curricula for these students, or practice some content that is part of SEI endorsement courses. Each in-person session is an opportunity to be hands-on with your own materials, receive feedback and guidance from a qualified instructor, and see practical strategies to make learning effective, efficient, and fun for students. Each week will focus on a different topic:
Week 1, we will explore language objectives—how they relate to content objectives, how to create them, to use them, how to support them.
Week 2, we will explore crafting of authentic assessment (both formative and summative) with an eye toward meeting content and language objectives and providing data for effective instructional decisions.
Week 3, we will explore strategies to support ELL students’ access to content instruction through evidence-based reading, writing, and vocabulary interventions.
Participants are encouraged to break their own materials to work with during sessions. They are invited to attend any or all of these stand-alone events according to their needs.
