Description

Popular and informative presenter Gini Tate returns to address issues with legal ramifications for your school. Attorney Tate specializes in keeping current with the legal decisions and legislation that affect education today, and many administrators consider the Annual Legal Issues Seminar their “must-attend” event for updating their knowledge and preparing themselves for the year to come.

Participants in this program will review developments over the past year in the areas of special education and education law. Both lecture and question and answer formats are utilized.

Attorney Tate will review court decisions and administrative agency decisions dealing with appropriate services and implementation of Massachusetts General Laws chapter 71B and Section 504, as well as regular education developments, including decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court that are relevant to education.

The afternoon session will complete the morning round-up of key decisions and then deal with highly specialized questions and concerns in special education. The law and decisions around the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Reauthorization, and the issuance of the final federal regulations enforcing and implementing IDEA ’04 has been evolving and will be addressed throughout the day.

A separate follow-up webinar, Applying the Legal Issues Lens to Special Education Practice, is scheduled for one week after this year's Annual Legal Issues seminar. The webinar will discuss some of the key legal issues presented during the seminar and talk about the implications of these issues for practice.
