English Language Learners PLC

Calling all teachers who feel a collective responsibility for the ELs in their schools! The ELL PLC is a group that welcomes teachers from all disciplines, not just ESL teachers. The diversity of our group enables us to share different perspectives and resources in the ever-changing landscape of educating English Learners.

This PLC is participant driven and specific topics addressed in the group are guided by the needs and interests of the participants, with facilitation provided by Audrey Morse.

Topics discussed may include:

  • Challenges face by low incidence districts with limited staff and resources
  • Federal/State Regulations & Guidance to maintain compliance
  • WIDA updates and initiatives affecting the teaching of ELs
  • ESL Curriculum, platforms, and materials
  • The latest research affecting the teaching of ELs
  • Leveraging technology to increase EL engagement and learning
  • State testing and timelines
  • Analyzing data to identify trends, improve instructional practices and increase positive student outcomes
  • Family outreach and community organizations
  • Advocacy for ELs
  • Dually identified ELs, SLIFE, and ELs experiencing Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) or trauma
  • Supporting the Social Emotional needs of ELs and their families

2021-2022 School Year

Due to concerns about COVID-19 exposure and the on-going pandemic health crisis, ELL PLC meetings will be held remotely using Google Meet. We value the in-person experience and will balance this preference with safety concerns. When the public health situation changes, we will work as a group to develop a plan for returning to in-person sessions.

The first session of the 2021-2022 School Year will be held via Google Meet on February 3, 2022 from 4:30pm - 6:00pm.

Dates for the next sessions are:

  • April 7, 2022, 4:30-6:00pm
  • May 26, 2022, 4:30-6:00pm
  • June 15, 2022, 4:30-6:00pm

PDPs can be earned by registering for the school year and completing a demonstration of learning, which will be provided upon request by the facilitator.

PLC Cancellations

Cancellations will be communicated by the facilitator by email before noon on the day of the meeting. Please check your email before the meeting to confirm that there has not been a cancellation.

Please register online, and the Zoom link for the PLC sessions will be shared by the facilitator.

All questions about this learning community should be directed to the PLC Facilitator, Audrey Morse, amorse@collaborative.org.
