About the 776 Algebra Project

   About 776 Algebra Online...

776 Algebra Online
is a web-based course for students who have failed algebra or wish to accelerate in Algebra. The course is designed to help students achieve sufficient academic growth to gain the credit they need to graduate and/or score 'proficient' or better on MCAS. The program is open to any student currently enrolled in middle or high school.

Course Content and Instructional Support

Algebra Online covers all the same course material as a year long high school algebra course, but allows students to direct their own learning. With ongoing help from a certified math teacher, students decide when and what they want to study. Interactive audio and video explanations, exercises, and real-world examples appeal to students who may find Facebook more engaging than a traditional math class.

Each student has an online instructor who answers questions and helps the student develop an individualized Learning Plan that guides their studies, so that they focus on topics they find most challenging. Students have access to their instructor and classmates any time they go online. In addition, teachers from the student’s school district are trained as coaches to provide in-school support.

Algebra Online’s in-school coaches and online instructor participate in a professional workgroup to share and develop positive supports that will help each student to develop the skills necessary to master the content.  Through the workgroup, educators become resources for each other, developing their own skills around how to teach students who find math challenging.

Project Objectives

Our goal is to help all participating students score proficient or higher on MCAS, gain the math credits they need to earn their high school diploma and/or accelerate their Algebra proficiency. Other program objectives include:

  • Motivating students to achieve high standards
  • Improving school capacity to serve students who lack the motivation to succeed in traditional classrooms or higher level online programs
  • Providing a learning environment that allows students to build their skills, confidence, and intellectual abilities at their own pace
  • Forming a community of educators who can better support students who find math challenging
