Literacy Consultation

Developing Thoughtful Readers and Effective Writers

The Collaborative for Educational Services is dedicated to the idea that all students deserve the right to be taught how to become thoughtful readers and effective writers of authentic text. To this end, CES provides diverse training and technical assistance services for teachers and administrators to develop a deep understanding of multiple approaches including the balanced literacy approach.

We believe that each training opportunity must meet the unique needs of each teacher, school or district that we serve, allowing districts to draw from our wide expertise to meet their specific challenges and advance their school and district initiatives.

Our work includes:

  • On-site visits to schools for customized workshop training for teachers, administrators, and paraprofessionals
  • Demonstration lessons with students
  • Observation,Coaching and Debriefing
  • Special emphasis on Struggling Readers
  • Suggestions for appropriate materials for both reading and writing instruction
  • Storytelling/StoryActing (Paley)
  • Integrative or Embedded Curriculum (literacy around content)
  • Supporting teachers with differentiated instruction
  • Consultation on literacy assessment data to inform instruction

Providing tailored programs for specific needs

CES can design programs tailored to address your audiences, time frames, and goals. Our literacy consultants provide a variety of comprehensive literacy-centered services that help professionals to understand underlying theories of literacy growth and development; identifying and providing training on educational practices leading to enhanced student performance in reading, writing, and oral language development.
