As a licensed teacher in Massachusetts, you can pursue an additional license to gain the skills and experience you need to work with students who have diverse learning styles.  Contact our expert advisors who can help you develop your customized plan.  

Important Opportunity:

If you are currently working with a waiver as a Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities, or if you would like to add the Moderate Disabilities license to your current educator license, you may be eligible to enroll in two of the required courses FREE OF CHARGE, to support completing requirements for license. Requirements: 

Recommended Courses*

  • Learning Disabilities and Instructional Techniques
  • Understanding Differences and Disabilities
  • Positive Behavior Supports

*These three courses address the requirements for the Moderate Disabilities license.  Your previous graduate level coursework may determine which courses you will need.  

If you do not have a strong foundation in reading instruction, please speak with your advisor about adding an additional course to your plan that will help prepare you for the Foundations of Reading MTEL.

MTEL Requirements: 
  • Foundations of Reading
  • General Curriculum with Math (subset) or a Content Area test
Practicum: 

150 hour supervised practicum
