Massachusetts Licensure Academy

Massachusetts Licensure Academy

Are you working with a waiver as a Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities?

Would you like to add the Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities to your current educator license?

If the answer to either of these questions is yes, you are eligible to enroll in two no-cost courses to support completing requirements for licensure!

Each of these free semester-long courses can help you make "continuous progress" towards an Initial License as a Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities. For educators who already have an Initial License in another field, these courses can help you to earn an Additional License in Moderate Disabilities.

Courses meet in either Northampton or Marlborough and combine four face-to-face sessions with online work. Tuition and books are free for eligible participants. Priority for enrollment will be given to Massachusetts educators currently working on a waiver until the early registration deadline.

The Massachusetts Licensure Academy (MLA) is a program funded by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE) and offered through the Collaborative for Educational Services, offering two no-cost courses per semester in hybrid format (mix of online and face-to-face), with monthly face-to-face meetings in either Marlboro or Northampton. Courses are offered for 67.5 PDPs at no cost. Three graduate credits are available at the participant's expense. Course participants are expected to commit an average of 8 hours per week to the course, representing between 110 and 120 hours of work across the semester (including time spent in class). Participants may take up to two courses.

Priority for enrollment will be given to Massachusetts educators working on a waiver until the early registration deadline. After that date, course applications from people who are seeking an Additional License will be reviewed, and accepted in the order they were received until the course is full. Registrants working on a waiver are required to submit proof of eligibility before their registration is confirmed.
