English Language Arts Instructional Guide for DYS Schools (2014)

The English Language Arts (ELA) Guide is a resource for both new and veteran teachers that was developed to support the planning of high-quality curricula, instruction, and assessment for students in the care of the Department of Youth Services (DYS). Aligned with the 2011 Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and the Common Core State Standards, the ELA Guide is a cutting-edge resource that uses a positive youth development approach in presenting best teaching practices that encourage students' development of a strong sense of voice and self-advocacy as they plan for their futures. The Guide is an approximately 440 page PDF file with a digital table of contents, and is available for download and use by any educator.

Math Instructional Guide for DYS Schools (NEW-2017)

The Mathematics Guide is a resource for new and veteran teachers developed to support the planning of high-quality curricula, instruction, and assessment for students in the care of the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services (DYS). Aligned with the 2017 Massachusetts Mathematics Curriculum Framework and the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), the Guide includes Exemplar Units for Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. The Guide provides guidance for implementing these standards and incorporates research-based instructional models for our youth development approach encouraging students' development of a strong sense of voice and self-advocacy as they plan for their futures. The approximately 555-page PDF file offers a digital table of contents, and is available for download and use by any educator.
