Using Culturally Responsive Practices to Address Implicit Bias

Description

Culturally responsive practices (CRP) will be discussed in context of addressing and reducing implicit bias in early childhood. The connections of CRP, social emotional learning and family engagement will also be explored. Concrete strategies and beneficial tools to support embracing all kinds of diversity and the promotion of racial justice will be shared.

This session addresses Massachusetts Core Competency 7: Program Planning and Development; Massachusetts Core Competency 8: Professionalism and Leadership.

This 1.5-hour, fully online workshop is offered on Zoom.  If you have not used Zoom before, please review these participant instructions.

  • Practice Session: December 8, 2020; 6:30pm - 7:30pm

Practice Sessions are an additional optional session, included in many of our workshops this year at no additional cost. These facilitated sessions will deepen and broaden the learning from the workshop by offering a place for Q&A and to share and reflect on the information learned, attendee experiences related to the topic, resources, and challenges or successes with integrating the new knowledge into your practice.

    Desiree Lalbeharie-Josias, Ed.D. is the Director of the Early Childhood Department at CES.  She earned both her Bachelor’s degree in Education and Child Study and her Master’s degree in Education of the Deaf from Smith College.  She completed her doctoral studies at University of Massachusetts-Amherst in Special Education with a focus on Early Intervention.

Registration

A maximum class size is set for each course and registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. If the number of registrations for a course exceeds the maximum seats available or is too low to be able to conduct a quality learning experience, CES will inform you of available options.

Course Cancellation

If you wish to cancel your registration, please submit a request in writing (via mail, email or fax) no later than 7 business days before the workshop’s start date. After that, there are no refunds or billing adjustments.

In the event that a course is cancelled by the Collaborative for Educational Services, we will notify you as soon as possible.
