Using the Bands of Text Difficulty to Inform Our Teaching

Summer Academy

Many teachers benchmark their students and assign them a level (Shelby is an M!), and yet, we often don't have an understanding of what those levels represent and how to use those levels to inform our teaching. (Now what do I do with Shelby?) In this workshop, teachers will come to a greater understanding of what kinds of reading work are called for at each band and then draw on this knowledge as we help readers progress toward more demanding texts.

Participants will learn strategy lessons that will equip readers to do this new work while reflecting on their own teaching and determine whether their mini lessons and small group work are supporting the kinds of skills that readers in our schools are being required to use.
