Unit of Study: Reading and Writing Biographies

English Language Arts
Offered by:
Professional Development

This workshop will provide participants with the exciting opportunity to integrate both reading and writing through a Biography Unit of Study.

With high demands being put on teachers' use of time, this workshop will afford participants some fresh ways to use the interactive read aloud as a tool for laying the foundation for understanding the key elements of the nonfiction genre of biography.

Once these elements of biography are firmly in place, this understanding will be used as the basis for a writing workshop, where students will learn how to write a biography through the integration of information used during their read aloud sessions.

Options for both class-written and individually written biographies will be discussed.

All materials will be provided.
