Professional Development


This is a five-session course (1 hour each day, for a week, Monday - Friday). 

  • Day 1:  Improving communication with students - Power of positive words
  • Day 2: Tomlinson's "Understanding of the 5 Elements Students Seek"
  • Day 3: Tomlinson's "Understanding 5 Ways Educators Respond
  • Day 4: Understanding behavior as communication
  • Day 5: Strategies for building stronger relationships with students - Tying it all together


Teachers and Paraprofessionals; Grades K - 12


Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance.

    Sharon Jones has spent 34 years working in public school districts. She has worked as both a special education and general education teacher; assistant principal; educational diagnostician/consultant; inclusion specialist; and, most recently, in the role of Administrator of Special Education. Sharon also teaches courses on inclusion for the University of Massachusetts.
