Description

This SEI Teacher Full Course equips participants with strategies to support ELLs' access to content instruction through evidence-based reading, writing and vocabulary interventions. The course blends face-to-face and online work through Moodle. Successful completion of this course qualifies participants to apply for the Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) Endorsement.

Participants must have a current Massachusetts license to teach and must have daily access to students in a classroom during the semester the course is taken. If you are a current candidate in our Educator Preparation program, please contact your advisor or the Registrar (registrar@collaborative.org) to find out if you are eligible to take this course instead of the Licensure RETELL course.

The course schedule accommodates 12 face-to-face sessions, a capstone project presentation, online work between sessions, and three make-up sessions. 

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the rigor, pace, and intensity of the course, which leads to an Endorsement from the State for teachers, you may NOT miss more than two sessions. Missing MORE than two class sessions will result in a withdrawal grade.

Audience

K-12 Massachusetts core academic teachers who are seeking the mandatory SEI Endorsement for their license.

Credits

Participants who complete the course will be eligible for 67.5 PDPs. Participants can take the course for three graduate credits through Fitchburg State University at a cost to the participant of $335.

Dates and Locations

Wednesdays, Collaborative for Educational Services in Northampton

  1. 12 face-to-face sessions from 4:00pm - 7:00pm on February 14, 28, March 7, 14, 21, 29*, April 4, 11, 25, May 2, 9, 16, 2018  (*please note: this is a Thursday)
  2. In addition to these face-to-face meetings, participants must reserve all four of the following Capstone sessions and attend one, as scheduled by the instructor:
    • May 23, 2018, 4:00pm - 6:00pm AND 6:15pm - 8:15pm
    • May 30, 2018, 4:00pm - 6:00pm AND 6:15pm - 8:15pm
  3. Participants must reserve the following three face-to-face make-up sessions (in the event of inclement weather, instructor illness, etc.):
    • June 6, 13 AND 20, 2018, 4:00pm - 7:00pm

Cost and Registration

The cost of the course is $500. There is an additional cost of $335 for graduate credits (3) through Fitchburg State University. If you have questions about the course, please contact the Professional Development Department (details below).

Registration

A maximum class size is set for each course and registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. If the number of registrations for a course exceeds the maximum seats available or is too low to be able to conduct a quality learning experience, the Collaborative will inform you of available options.

Course Cancellation

If you wish to cancel your registration, please submit a request in writing (via mail, email or fax) no later than 5 business days before the workshop’s start date. After that, there are no refunds or billing adjustments.

In the event that a course is cancelled by the Collaborative for Educational Services, we will notify you as soon as possible. Please be sure to provide your best email address and phone number so we can contact you.  Although every effort is made to avoid last minute cancellations, if an emergency arises, we will do our best to reach you at the phone number and email address you provide.
