Description

You've earned your SEI endorsement; now what? The SEI course taught educators to think about academic language in terms of language objectives; this course offers a "deeper dive" into academic language as it relates to content (knowledge, skills, understandings) and thinking. Participants will explore WIDA's discourse, sentence and word/phrase levels of academic language; oral and written discourse; content and language objectives; and state and national content and practice standards.

Audience and Grade Level

Administrators, Curriculum Directors, Teachers; Grades K-12.

Credits

18 PDPs will be awarded to participants upon completion of this training, in addition to outside reading and assignments (as per DESE regulations). Note that these PDPs will satisfy the ELL or Special Education-related requirements for recertification.

  • Fully Online: Course runs November 5 through December 5, 2019. Real-time webinars on November 12 and 26, 2019 from 4:00pm - 5:30pm (Register by Oct 22)
  • Face to Face, NorthamptonJanuary 24, January 31, and February 7, 2020, 9:00am - 3:00pm at CES in Northampton (Register by Jan 9) 

Cost and Registration

  • Fully Online: The cost of the workshop is $370 for member districts, and $400 for non-member districts. 
  • Face to Face: The cost of the workshop is $360 for member districts, and $390 for non-member districts. 

All face to face open-enrollment courses will now include a full lunch. Please note any dietary preferences when registering.

    Albert E. Mussad, Ph.D., serves as a Leadership and Instruction Continuous Improvement Specialist at the Collaborative for Educational Services. He travels nationally to facilitate professional development for school leaders, teachers and other licensed educators in instructional leadership; English learner education; world language and bilingual education; secondary literacy education; and teaching students in poverty. Albert also facilitates curriculum development and strategic planning, evaluates educational programs, and provides instructional coaching.

Registration

A maximum class size is set for each course and registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. If the number of registrations for a course exceeds the maximum seats available or is too low to be able to conduct a quality learning experience, CES will inform you of available options.

Course Cancellation

If you wish to cancel your registration, please submit a request in writing (via mail, email or fax) no later than 7 business days before the workshop’s start date. After that, there are no refunds or billing adjustments.

In the event that a course is cancelled by the Collaborative for Educational Services, we will notify you as soon as possible.
