Lia Atanat

As the outreach and professional development coordinator at Maryland Humanities, Lia Atanat visits schools all over Maryland to get students and teachers excited about National History Day and Thinkport primary source inquiry kits. She manages the organization’s membership in the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Consortium and organizes and leads workshops and other professional development opportunities for K-12 social studies teachers. Lia holds a BA in Anthropology from Temple University, an MA in History from Boston College, and a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. She has previously taught academic English in Turkey and worked as a historic site educator in Boston.
