Exploring the Impact of Identity on Mathematics Teaching and Learning

How do we empower our students to identify themselves as mathematical thinkers? This three session workshop will focus on the connection between mathematical learning and identity. It will give participants a chance to reflect on their beliefs about students, themselves as teachers, mathematics learning, and equity. It will offer each participant the opportunity to deepen their ability to notice the complexity of each student in their classroom.

Participants in this workshop will:

  • Reflect on their identities as teachers and learners of mathematics
  • Understand how students develop positive and negative identities as mathematics learners
  • Deepend their understanding of effective assessments within equity-based practices
  • Rethink their engagement with families and communities

Audience and Grade Level
