Ethnic Studies as Culturally Relevant Teaching

Professional Development


This workshop will introduce educators to Ethnic Studies. Participants will learn about: 

  • the history of Ethnic Studies and its roots in the Civil Right's Movement
  • Ethnic Studies content and pedagogy, with examples from the Holyoke Public School's Ethnic Studies program
  • the benefits of Ethnic Studies in a K-12 context

The session will be facilitated by an Ethnic Studies teacher and a small group of students from the HPS Ethnic Studies program. The aim of the workshop is to share the work happening in our region with the goal of building a community of Ethnic Studies educators and programs in Western Mass.

A maximum class size is set for each course and registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. If the number of registrations for a course exceeds the maximum seats available or is too low to be able to conduct a quality learning experience, CES will inform you of available options.

If you wish to cancel your registration, please submit a request in writing (via mail, email or fax) no later than 7 business days before the workshop’s start date. After that, there are no refunds or billing adjustments.
