The Native Education Practices PLC is designed to provide a recurring virtual space for educators to learn, apply, and explore Native Educational Practices. Facilitators will demonstrate what Native communities/partners/culture keepers have shared regarding the needs in multi-cultural pedagogy. The goal is to use the co-created virtual space to develop awareness and understanding of the original inhabitants of the region, their relationships to the land, and identify practices you can apply to improve Native-Education in our learning settings
Collaboration, accuracy, and fidelity are needed to authentically represent Native students in the classroom so they see themselves in an uplifting and positive way in the curriculum. Teaching the contemporary topics, knowledge, and history of the First Nations of the geographic region is a process that must include their voices.
The N8tive Ed PLC’s aim is to serve Native youth by being a bridge for educators to the voices in the field of Native education. Our objective is to credit indigenous knowledge at an equitable level with western knowledge, and change current practices in education that are not accurate or authentic to First Nation People and their distinct cultures. Attendees will be able to practice and develop lesson plans related to decolonizing their educational practice, earn a minimum of 15 PDPs if they attend 4 of 9 sessions and present a final product during the 2024-2025 school year.
Please note: If you would like PDPs, you will need to choose the $100 registration option. This fee covers the cost of administering PDPs. While participants can join at any time, PDPs are only provided to those who attend at least 4 sessions.
