The Transforming Education for Social Justice Conference is a regional conference that brings together people in Western Massachusetts who are interested in social justice and equity in K-12 schools, early childhood classrooms, and the surrounding communities.
Participants and speakers of this conference bring promising practices for schools, classrooms and communities. Networking opportunities provide a chance for young people, educators, activists, and administrators to connect, share, and learn from each other about how to develop education as a tool for equity and social justice. Participants have the opportunity to examine the specific regional challenges that young people are facing in our education system which are central to their lives and to the vitality of our communities.
Conference sessions cover a variety of social justice and equity topics as they relate to K-12 schools. For example, 2016 topics included restorative justice, race and racism, gender identity, multilingualism, unconscious bias, trauma-informed pedagogy, and creating and maintaining diversity in the educator workforce.
