Tutoring Services
Extra help for struggling students....
Your child may be eligible for
FREE tutoring services.
What are Supplemental Educational Services and how do they work?
As part of the federal No Child Left Behind Act, children who receive free or reduced-price lunch, or who attend Title I schools that have not made Adequate Yearly Progress for at least three years, are eligible for free tutoring services known as Supplemental Educational Services (SES). Students who are eligible to receive Supplemental Educational Services are identified by their school district, and families are notified that their child may receive free tutoring in academic subjects such as reading, language arts, and mathematics. Students take part in these activities outside of the regular school day. For students who may not learn well in traditional classrooms, tutoring offers opportunities for them to learn in different, perhaps more effective, ways.
Each state develops an approved list of providers that can offer high-quality, research-based tutoring that is in line with state educational standards. Families can consider information about the services offered in their school district and select a provider. Parents are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to get help for their child at no charge.
Tutoring builds on learning during the school day
Students are tutored in small groups or individually, if necessary, in a safe, nurturing environment to build on the learning that takes place during the school day.
The Collaborative's Supplemental Educational Services tutoring program includes:
- Up to 4 hours per week of tutoring, held right after school in the child's own school. Students are eligible for a total of 25 to 33 hours of free tutoring over the course of the school year, based on their school district.
- Special computer-based learning activities, via compasslearningodyssey.com, that have been shown to be effective in raising achievement and test scores -- while keeping students engaged and enthusiastic!
- Individual learning plans and goals to meet each student’s needs
- Weekly snapshots of students' computer-based activities, shared with parents
- In-depth monthly progress reports, shared with parents and school administrators
