Accessing Communication & Curriculum through Technology (A.C.C.T.): 2012 Summer Content Institute
Begins June 28, 2012 (Application deadline: June 7, 2012)

This free, 45-hour Massachusetts DESE institute is designed to help educators explore, understand, and take advantage of technologies and resources that will help students -- especially those with disabilities -- access curriculum and enhance their learning. Participants will have four full days of hands-on training in software and hardware solutions and receive demonstrations of best practices that they can take back to their districts. Institute topics include assistive technology, accessible instructional materials, and universal design.

The Insitute is four full-day summer sessions and 2.5 days in the fall. Please apply only if you are able to attend all Institute days and fall follow-up days.

  • Summer Session dates: June 28-29 & July 5-6, 2012 (Thursday-Friday, 8:30am-4:00pm) at Holyoke Community College Kittredge Center
  • Fall Follow-Up dates: September 27, 2012 (Thursday, 12:00-3:30pm); October 25, 2012 (Thursday, 8:00am-3:30pm); November 8, 2012 (Thursday, 8:00am-3:30pm) at Collaborative for Educational Services Main Office (Naorthampton, MA)


This Insitute is funded by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and is offered at no cost to educators. In order to attend and receive Professional Development Points, participants must:

  • Complete a local issues survery prior to the start of the course
  • Attend all summer and follow-up sessions of the institute
  • Complete a survey, a pre-test, and a post-test of Institute content
  • Complete Institute assignments and projects


67.5 Professional Development Points are available on completetion of the program. 3 graduate credits will be available for an additional cost. Universally designed toolkits will be disseminated to all 2-person teams accepted to the Institute.
