Hybrid Online Courses
The Licensure Program courses are delivered in a Hybrid Online format, combining the convenience of online learning with face-to-face sessions. This method of teaching offers both the convenience of online distance learning and the benefits of traditional student and instructor interaction. The Hybrid Online approach also allows you to fit your studies around your busy schedule.
The first session of each course begins with a face-to-face class meeting in which you will meet your instructor and classmates, review the syllabus, and learn about Moodle, our online course management system. The instructor will demonstrate how to access course content and resources using Moodle, and how to participate in discussion forums. The second and third face-to-face sessions, adding to the online discussions and community building that are so important in all learning.
Successful Online Learning
Online learning is significantly different than the traditional classroom experience: you will be 'attending' class over the internet when it is convenient for you, rather than at a specific time not at a specific time when the entire class meets, as in a face-to-face situation. Here are some tips to help you navigate the online learning environment:
- You will need to be self-motivated. There is no physical class to attend so you need to have the self-discipline to regularly log in to your class and complete the required assignments in a timely manner. Good time management skills are a necessity.
- You should feel comfortable communicating with your peers and instructors via email and online forums and journals.
- You should be able to express yourself in writing in order to participate in online discussions and use email, in addition to completing written assignments. If necessary, polish up your typing skills!
- You will need sufficient computer skills to locate, open, edit, and save files, use email, interact with online resources, and upload and download documents in Moodle. We can help you polish up your computer skills if necessary.
