Information for Educators

  EDUCATORS   Promoting individual student growth...

776 Algebra Online
is an online course for students who have failed Algebra. The course is designed to provide a flexible, engaging learning environment for students who need to gain credit to graduate and/or to score 'proficient' or better on MCAS and/or accelerate their proficiency in Algebra. The course covers the same material as a year of high school Algebra. Learning is self-paced; there is no set time frame, but most students complete the course in a little more than a semester.

The program is specifically designed to meet the needs of learners who learn best:

  • At their own pace
  • With engaging interactive audio and video explanations and exercises
  • With one-on-one support from a certified math teacher

766 Algebra Online expands district capacity to serve students who find math challenging and may learn better in a differentiated, non-traditional learning environment. Professional development and support are offered to educators in districts with participating students.

What students say about 776 Algebra Online

Self-directed learning:

A certified math teacher helps each student set up an individualized Learning Plan/Contract, which guides their studies. Students have flexibility to decide what and when they will learn. The online instructor is avilable througout the course to answer questions, provide ongoing support, and guide the student's mastery of content. When students access the course on a school or home computer, they can also interact online with other classmates who are learning the same material.

Differentiated environment and content:

Students use the Learning Plan/Contract as a road map, to reinforce their learning in areas of greatest weakness and gain the math skills they need to pass MCAS, gain credit, and graduate from high school. A wide variety of interactive audio and video exercises, real-world examples, and lessons is available for each topic, allowing students to explore tools to suit their own unique learning needs and styles. Because students move to the next topic only when they can demonstrate evidence of learning content material, they progress at their own pace and take ownership of their learning. Success in an online format gives students the confidence to learn higher level mathematics and recover credit.

Support and learning for both students and educators:

The teaching team for Algebra Online includes the online math instructor and trained coaches from the district of each participating student. This team provides the in-school and online support and guidance necessary for students to stay motivated in learning a subject they found challenging in a traditional classroom setting.

Teachers and support staff of any subject area from the student's district may join the team by taking an online E-Learning course for in-school coaches (PDPs available). Coaches also participate in a professional workgroup in order to collaboratively develop and share positive interventions and supports for students to keep their learning on track. Educators participating in the workgroup become resources for each other in learning new ways to support students failing algebra.
